Freelancers are on the rise:
When looking at the United States, the freelance market has grown from 3.6 million from 2014 to 2018 a whopping 56 million freelancers. In addition, from this time spam, work hours have increased from 998 million hours a week in 2015 to 1.07 billion in 2018.
People choosing to be freelancers by choice rather than necessity has risen from 53% in 2014 to 61% in 2018.
Hirees and freelancers together save on taxes:
You heard it, when you look at income taxes from European countries can go as high as 57%. Thus if your salary as an employee is 50K Euros a year, your employer is taxed which can result in half of your salary. On the other hand, being self-employed nocks the taxes down to an average of 15%. In Europe even if you pay for your own health insurance, it’s still substantially cheaper!
One can argue that job security is obviously safer, but it doesn’t mean you make more money. You, in fact lose out on taxes.
Not all generations freelance equally:
In general, the rule is the younger an adult is, the more likely they are to freelance. While just 29% of baby boomers freelanced, 31% of Gen X did, as did 40% of millennials. Among Gen Z professionals, 53% did contract work.
Freelancers claim a better life balance and are more involved in their countries politically:
When comparing full time employed to self-employed 53% of full-time freelancer respondents claim their politically active compared to 34% of full time employees. In fact, 72% said they’d be willing to cross party lines to vote for candidates who support freelancer interests showing a more independent behaviour over right vs. left.
