The United States men's soccer team pulled off a hard fought, thrilling victory against their Mexican counterparts 3-2. It was ultimately Captain America, Christian Pulisic, that scored the game winning goal on a penalty that he also earned. Mexico had a penalty of their own in the dying embers of the game after a handball. Unfortunately for them, Andres Guardado, a longtime stalwart of the Mexican team, had his shot blocked by Ethan Horvath. To be fair it was a poor shot, but Horvath reacted well to his right. It's of note that Horvath came into the game to replace an injured Zack Steffen.
Regardless who you're a fan of, this game was as exciting as had been seen in Concacaf in a while. It's healthy to have such competitive and exciting games to uplift this region.
It's on to the Gold Cup in July. We may see a rematch of this game in the final!
