The elegant man does not lead him to a castle or a crypt.
He leads him to an anonymous building in central Vienna.
Three floors. Dark windows. No sign.
“Here?” the boy asks.
Authentic Doors do not display themselves.
Inside there are no obvious symbols. Only silence. A structured silence.
He is brought into a circular chamber. Twelve chairs. A thirteenth in the center.
The men present are not robed mystics. They are industrialists, professors, officers, financiers. Ordinary faces. Unordinary eyes.
One speaks:
“Do you know why you are here?”
“Because I have seen.”
A murmur moves through the room.
“What have you seen?”
“That matter is a threshold. And that within the Earth there is consciousness.”
The eldest smiles faintly.
“Not beneath. Within.”
⸻
They show him a map.
Not geographical.
A section of the Earth—yet not according to official geology.
Vast cavities. Concentric structures. Energy currents rising from the poles.
“The Earth is not a solid globe,” one says. “It is an organism.”
“A hollow heart,” another adds.
“And in the heart?” the boy asks.
“The Kingdom.”
One word.
Grail.
They pronounce it without theatrics.
⸻
“The history of humanity,” the eldest continues, “is not linear. It is pedagogical. We are guided through necessary conflicts. Each epoch has had its antagonist.”
“Necessary?” the boy asks.
“Without resistance, no will develops. Without will, no consciousness. Without consciousness, no return to Eden.”
“So evil is a tool?”
Silence.
“Evil is an accelerator.”
A slight dissonance passes through him.
⸻
They induce visions.
Cities beneath the crust, illuminated by argent light. Elliptical vessels suspended like seeds awaiting germination. Tall beings, luminous, serene.
“Are they gods?”
“No. Elder brothers.”
“And what do you want from me?”
“You are compatible.”
“With what?”
“With the Field.”
A tremor runs through him.
“What does it require?”
“Suffering.”
“How much?”
“Until nothing misaligned remains.”
⸻
The room darkens.
At the center appears the luminous Cup, suspended in the planetary core.
“The Grail is not an object,” a voice says. “It is a field of consciousness.”
“And the antagonist?”
The room shifts.
“The People of Klingsor.”
No explanation. No ethnicity. No banner. Only a concept.
“A network,” someone adds. “An infiltrated intelligence. It feeds on conflict—not to evolve, but to perpetuate division.”
“And you tolerated it?”
“Every antagonist is tolerated until it ceases to serve evolution.”
“And now?”
“Now it obstructs the Second Phase.”
⸻
He places his hand upon a metallic surface.
It vibrates.
Light enters his arm.
He sees planetary grids. He sees an obscure diffusion among the cities of the world. Not a form. A distributed presence.
A phrase echoes within:
There is no salvation without traversal.
The light fades.
“It has begun,” one says.
“The Dragon awaits.”
When he steps back into the night, Vienna appears unchanged.
But he knows the Door.
And he has crossed it.
