"WarGames" is a 1983 American science fiction techno-thriller film.

The story follows David Lightman, a young hacker who unwittingly accesses a United States military supercomputer programmed to simulate, predict and execute nuclear war against the Soviet Union.

Soon after I joined the military, "Wargames" was released in theaters.

It really made me start thinking about the future landscape of war.

Cyber Warfare between nations and/or proxy conflicts; that is, confrontations involving groups backed by opposing nation states, seemed inevitable.
