Bitcoin Could Outperform Stocks and Gold Over the Next Decade

Cryptocurrency markets continue to be shaped by moves from the giants of the traditional finance (TradFi) world. JPMorgan Chase, one of the largest banks on Wall Street, known for its distant and skeptical approach towards digital assets for years, has signed a groundbreaking report from the perspective of traditional finance. In the bank's latest Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions (LTCMA) report, Bitcoin (BTC) was officially included in long-term projections for the first time. Moreover, it was predicted that Bitcoin would outperform both global stock markets and gold, which is seen as a safe haven, in the next ten years. So, what does this remarkable report from JPMorgan mean? What do the numbers behind the report and the change in Wall Street's view of crypto tell us? Let's examine the details in detail.

The 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions report published by JPMorgan Asset Management offers a huge projection covering more than 200 asset classes for investors to make portfolio planning. The most striking element in this comprehensive report was undoubtedly the annual return estimates for Bitcoin. According to JPMorgan analysts:
Bitcoin (BTC) Annual Average Return Expectation: 10%
US Large-Cap US Stocks: 7.5%
Gold:5.5%
Giving Bitcoin a double-digit growth potential, leaving behind the long-term returns of US stocks and gold, the most reliable and well-established investment instruments of the traditional financial ecosystem, is considered a historical turning point in terms of institutional acceptance of crypto assets.

Although the 10% base case seems extremely attractive, JPMorgan analysts did not forget to underline the high volatility inherent in Bitcoin. According to the risk analysis in the report, two extreme scenarios are predicted for Bitcoin:
Bull Scenario: It is predicted that Bitcoin's annualized return may reach up to 16.6%.
Bear Scenario: Due to high volatility and market conditions, an annualized loss risk of 11.2% is also kept on the table.
While making these calculations; Critical factors such as the ratio of Bitcoin's supply growth rate to the global money supply, network adoption rates, and digital gold's correlation potential with traditional gold were taken into consideration.

Although JPMorgan sees high return potential in Bitcoin, it has not completely abandoned traditional finance principles. In its report, the bank clearly states that Bitcoin cannot be positioned as a reliable diversifier in portfolios for now: "At the current stage, we do not advocate that Bitcoin should be used as a diversifying tool in portfolios due to unstable market correlations. We see Bitcoin as a speculative asset and a shield against monetary expansion." This definition shows that Wall Street distinguishes Bitcoin from classical risk balancing instruments such as traditional bonds or stocks. However, the fact that it is a powerful protection tool against inflation and the money printing policies of central banks is also registered in the bank's report.

This report from JPMorgan caused wide repercussions in the crypto world. Reminding Mahatma Gandhi's famous quote, Bitwise Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Matt Hougan used the following statements in his post on social media:
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, and finally they add you to their Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions reports and predict that you will be the best-performing asset of the next decade.”
The Bitwise team had made much more ambitious predictions before; He published a report predicting that Bitcoin could reach $1.3 million by 2035 and provide an annual return of 28.3% in the base scenario. Although JPMorgan's 10% estimate was more conservative compared to Bitwise, the fact that a global banking giant made an estimate at this level reveals the weight of the sector.

This move by JPMorgan is the clearest evidence that cryptocurrencies are no longer a "fad" or a "negligible" asset class and are accepted even at the highest levels of Wall Street. From the perspective of investors; Although Bitcoin is far from becoming an indispensable part of traditional portfolios, it is positioned as one of the most attractive addresses where capital wants to grow in the next 10-year macroeconomic cycle. Although high volatility and regulation risks continue, institutional capital projections in this direction continue to strengthen long-term investment theses.
