The World Within
What do you ask of this world?
First, make your own heart love its light;
Turn your soul into a lantern,
And let it fill the world with light.
If you seek a mirror for truth,
First cleanse the mirror of your heart;
For every world you see outside
Begins within, where all things start.
The world reflects the soul you carry,
Its beauty, sorrow, dark, and flame;
If you wish to see a kinder world,
Begin by changing what you name.
If hatred lives within your chest,
The world will wear its shade of pain;
But if your heart is filled with love,
Even the clouds will bring you rain.
Do not ask why the world is colder,
Why hearts seem faithless, hard, and blind;
Bring warmth to someone else's winter,
And leave a little love behind.
Plant the seeds of love wherever
The earth seems empty, dry, and bare;
For what you give with open hands
Will one day blossom everywhere.
If someone reaches out for mercy,
And you have something you can give,
Do not turn away from their sorrowโ
Be the reason they can live.
And when you find a tired heart,
Sit beside it for a while;
You need not heal every woundโ
Sometimes compassion is enough to smile.
Do not say, โMy dreams are far away,
And fate has closed the doors on me.โ
The wings that carry you tomorrow
Are born from what you dare to be.
There is a treasure hidden deeply
Beneath the silence of your soul;
If you seek the riches of existence,
Begin the journey toward the whole.
Do not search for God beyond the heavens,
As though He lives in distant skies;
Be still, and listen to your spiritโ
Sometimes the nearest truth lies inside.
If you have wandered far to find Him,
Across the roads of doubt and fear,
Be still for just a moment longerโ
The voice you seek may already be near.
Not every smile means joy is present,
Not every silence means despair;
The deepest stories of a person
Are often hidden from the stare.
And if this world should ever break you,
Do not mistake the wound for end;
Rise from the ruins of your sorrow,
And let your broken pieces mend.
For everything you give to others
Will find its way back to your door;
If love is what you place in life,
Then life will give you even more.
And when the road becomes uncertain,
When doubt surrounds you like the night,
Do not waste your soul fighting the darknessโ
Become, within yourself, the light.
If you desire to change the world,
Do not begin with distant lands;
Begin with one awakened heart,
One gentle soul, two open hands.
For every change the world remembers
Once began quietly, unseenโ
Inside a heart that chose to awaken,
Inside a soul that chose to dream.
And perhaps the deepest truth of all
Is simpler than the stars above:
When you become more beautiful within,
The world becomes beautiful through love.
