They fail to engage creativity.
The most talented employees seek to improve everything they touch. If you take away their ability to change and improve things because you’re only comfortable with the status quo, this makes them hate their jobs.
Caging up this innate desire to create not only limits them, it limits you as a leader and as a person.
So what can be done about?
First of all accept change and be ready to move things forward.
Second thing is to educate yourself and your employees. One day trainings from topics like Lean, Six Sigma, Kai Zen, Rapid prototyping, After Action Review and many more are a great way to start. Nobody says you need people to make big masive changes instantly, but if you can show your eployees that you are open to change and eager for new ideas they will come to you with ideas!
Invest a little bit and before you know it you will have a motivated group of inovators!
