Introduction

When you think of ways to earn free crypto, what comes to mind? You might think of faucets, Learn to Earn programs like Coinbase Earn, Play to Earn blockchain games, and even signing up for exchanges or lending platforms using referral codes. However, in this post I'm going to introduce a strange and interesting way of earning free crypto: Posting and commenting on r/CryptoCurrency to earn Moons (a token based on the Ethereum blockchain).

What are moons and how do I earn them?

Moons are a ERC-20 token based on the Ethereum blockchain, and they can be earned by getting upvotes on your posts and comments in the r/CryptoCurrency subreddit. More specifically, you earn karma for getting upvotes, as you do in every other subreddit, but the karma you gain from posts and comments on r/CryptoCurrency are converted into moons once every 4 weeks. These moons can be claimed through your Reddit vault, which is essentially a cryptocurrency wallet. Setting it up is easy, just follow the instructions, back up your seed phrase, and you're good to go.

The karma to moon ratio changes with every distribution. In the last distribution, it was 1 karma = 0.3 moons. No one really knows how karma is calculated, but 1 upvote usually translates into 1 karma if you get a small number of upvotes on a single post or comment. If you get a large amount of upvotes, the karma you receive for each upvote decreases. For the purposes of this post, I'll just assume 1 upvote = 1 karma to keep things simple.

Is earning moons worth it?

Currently, 1 moon is worth approximately $0.15 USD. Its price is quite volatile due to low liquidity, but it has been growing in value quite consistently.

Recall that 1 karma roughly equals 0.3 moons. So if you earn 1000 karma from posting and commenting on r/CryptoCurrency, you'll get around 300 moons, which is worth about $45 USD. Just for posting and commenting on topics that you're already interested in. To me, this is an amazing opportunity. The only way I can think of to earn free crypto this easily  is Coinbase Earn, since you just have to answer short quizzes to get free crypto. However, getting a decent amount of free crypto for doing what I already do usually is an amazing deal. 

Conclusion

I think this is one of the most unique and worthwhile methods of earning free crypto. You can contribute to the crypto community by interacting with other Redditors, while earning a decent amount of free crypto. I also think moons have decent growth potential, looking at their historical price data and rising adoption.
