Three days ago I had my Hive celebration post. I turned five on Hive and I have some mixed feelings about that. On the one hand, it feels like my landing here was yesterday, probably because I stayed active since day one, and on the other, it feels like an eternity.
One year in crypto is like ten in real life and Hive is no exception in dilating and contracting time in such a manner. But... Where will crypto be in five years from now? Do you ask yourself such questions? I did, the other day and tried to foresee what the crypto space is going to be like half a decade from now.
First and foremost...
I see a lot more DeFi happening in the coming years, and I would primarily blame regulatory institutions for that... Banks getting hawkish towards crypto, as it happens in the UK for some cases and also rumors regarding a staking ban for retailers in the US will further push the development of DeFi.
I will go further and iterate that we are probably going to see some sort of DEX put in place by some political superpower at some point, probably not just five years from now, maybe later. Many were expecting the mass adoption push for crypto to further be fueled by developing countries such as El Salvador but my take is Russia is going to play an important role in this regard, and Turkey too.
Crypto is about inclusion and America has excluded and sanctioned quite a bunch of countries over the years. I can't say if we will get to see the dedollarization of the world this decade, but if it's going to happen, I will blame China and Russia for playing an important role in that push, and even if it won't be a decentralized blockchain cryptocurrency like Bitcoin that such powers will use to replace the dollar for international trades it will for sure be "Bitcoin inspired".
Social media and MSM are undergoing a rough transitioning process as well. Chatgpt is making waves and cryptocurrency will penetrate that space too. My hopes are that Hive will eat the lunch of the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, youtube, and whatever, but even if it won't be alone in the process, the direction is clear to me. More and more individuals are going to transit towards immutable blockchain-based social media platforms.
For the past few years, traditional media (social media included) has managed to push plenty of hardcore users and believers toward the search for better alternatives(uncensorable and why not tokenized ones). The people are going to become the media at some point, if not already and I don't see any reason why we won't have more projects similar to Hive in the next five years or so.
Then there's the metaverse. We don't know yet what this thing is capable of and we probably don't even have the computing capacity for the needs of "a proper metaverse", but don't be fooled, I see much many crypto projects involved in the metaverse that are going to be doing great in the years to come than I see these A.I. shitcoins that are pumping currently.
Blockchain games and metaverse bidnesses are something I'm betting on for the years to come.
Bitcoin won't get flipped anytime soon. I'm not a maxi of any kind and I don't see any flipping between it and ETH in the next five years or so. The way I see it, especially after the covid experience with so much printing, Bitcoin is going to gain even more traction as a hedge(against almost everything), despite its volatility.
The regulators won't go into a comma or something all this time and gradually they're gonna be asking for more and more from CEXs when it comes to the control they pertain over the such business. This one will further strengthen the DeFi sector and many more DEXes will pop up in the years to come. So will the rug pulls. Don't get fooled, crypto is still a hell of a wild west.
We're gonna have crypto payments on services and websites that we least expect and I will blame Twitter for that. My gut feeling tells me that Twitter will be the first social media app to overcome its status and embed crypto payments and transfers in the app. The way I see Elon Musk, it's probably already settled that DOGE is going to be part of such a feature. I don't exclude cash from the equation but crypto will be there too.
As all of the above will come to fruition I see Hive climbing up the latter of crypto projects quite aggressively in the next five years. It has the pedigree and the infrastructure to support many of the future developments in the crypto space. I don't have many details of Ragnarok and SPK Network of @theycallmedan, but these ones coupled with @khaleelkazi's everything app will boost Hive's shy exposure in the crypto space.
What do you think?
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
