Before you call me a nutcase, a friend of mine brought this up back in August 2019 and I called them a nutcase. A report written by Yorke Rhodes III Principal Program Manager, Azure Blockchain Engineering and posted May 31, 2016 reports that there are 1.5 Billion people without proper identification and most are women and children. The problem with this, according to the report, is that those who are undocumented are at an exceptional risk for human trafficking.
Humantraffickinghotline.org states there are 40.3 million victims globally who are held against their will in human slavery and many of those are forced in to the sex trade. These are staggering numbers but what do they mean? The World Clock (and if you havent visited the world clock online it is rather impressive,) shows that there are over 7,760,656,200 (and rapidly climbing!) people on this planet. Forty million is 2.5% of the worlds population. Most of the undocumented people are in Asia and Africa.
Despite being disturbing to anyone reading statistics on human trafficking, the majority of undocumented people are not victims of human trafficking, according to the statisticians. We can expect that undocumented women are probably having children who remain undocumented too. And it would not be a far reach to assume the fathers are also undocumented.
An August 2013 report states that there are probably more than 100 uncontacted tribes left in the world and many are in South America. These are groups of people who, by choice and/or culture remain “undocumented.” How many total people within those tribes, no one is sure. Why the modern day preoccupation with undocumented people when they comprise 1.5 billion out of 7,760,660,600 (yes, it increase that much in the time it took me to write this far.)?
Imagine living in a world where you need a number to buy or sell? Without this number, you literally cannot do anything except exist. This idea is really not too far from conspiracy. Microsoft is currently working with several partners to create a system that uses blockchain to identify individuals. They are working on it. This isnt an idea, or a boardroom drawing. This is technology in the works and it may affect you at some point in your life, depending on your age. It sounds like each person will be issued a number and that number links each person with some form of blockchain identity by which they can not only prove their identity, but also allows them the only way to buy and sell.
Do you see any abuses that can come from that? Who will actually own the number given to you? And if that number is technically owned by an entity other than yourself, what kinds of limits can it place on you? What if you don’t want anyone else knowing where you are or what you are doing? A constant trail of proof will be available to (the government?) about where you are, what you are doing, and probably with who.
