How to save money?

How to save money?

Introduction

So let's start of with a few personal things, I'm a student with not a lot of money. I have been studying for a long time and because of that I have lost any government support that students gets. This is completely my own fault so now that I decided to study again I have to get the money for this myself. Because of this small personal history I might give some insight in some useful tips for other people in my position in how you can still keep money on the side to invest or keep yourself alive. These are my tips on how to be a cheapskate.

Buying goods

Now this is not a groundbreaking thing by any means but my tip is just don't buy anything you don't need and when you do buy go thrift shopping. For example I have three pair of pants, one grey, one blue and one black. To be honest that is literally all you need, you don't have to go cheap on the pants themselves I wear them for multiple years and get my money out of it easily. I do the same with clothes, I buy the things i find necessary I have around 5 blouses and a few shirts plus 2 sweaters. I have had them also for multiple years, they are quality items which I did spend quite some money on and that is why they last. And for other appliances look at the things you really need always think before buying is this really something that I will use a lot.

Diogenes in his barrel

Now don't take it too far and live like the philosopher Diogenes he was such a care free man he lived his live in a barrel together with some other quite peculiar behavior. If you like I good read I recommend looking him up.

Hobby's

Taking up a hobby can cost quite some money so how do you make sure you can pick it up? When starting a new hobby always try to start with the cheapest of gear. For example I picked up racebicking on a 50$ race bike, I have pimped it up myself using youtube video's just small things. 351665157-7a84258cf117c34f4255970405c2bff9de34cb6f71f59c9ed18a4342055ac770.png -That's my bike.

Food

Now my last tips will be on food. Number one would be bring your own food to work always. I always make my own bread and bring it to my work this has saved me a lot of money. It's also really easy and you never have to worry about getting food. Cook for a few days, when cooking in bulk you usually cook cheaper and it saves time! Also cut out any sweets and soda's out of your diet, water and fruit is all you need as healthy snacks. When buying tea buy leaves not the small pouches you can go much longer with them.

In summary

  • Only buy the things that you know or necessary for you
  • The thrift store is your best friend plus online places like ebay
  • Always put 10% of your loan aside for investing or something else
  • Don't snack and bring your own food
  • When picking up new hobbies start with really cheap gear

Well that's about it let me leave a quite unrelated but funny gif of some real life Jurassic park footage https://i.imgur.com/ZXuFNBV.mp4
