Open Network’s first anniversary last week marked a significant event for the Pi ecosystem, reflecting a year of expanded utility, development, and growing engagement from both developers and Pioneers. To mark the occasion, Pi’s Founders shared insight into Pi’s strategy, approach, and the direction and priorities guiding Pi’s continued development.

With the annual Pi Day celebration approaching on March 14, as one part of the community engagement and celebration, Pi is announcing a community initiative that recognizes Pioneer achievements with special badges and a Pi merchandise raffle. In the weeks leading up to Pi Day, this initiative underscores the role Pioneers play across the ecosystem in using apps, supporting community activity, and participating in network growth.

Commemorative Badges and Community Raffle

To celebrate Pioneer achievements in the ecosystem, commemorative Pi badges—as well as the opportunity to join the Pi merchandise raffle—will be awarded to eligible Pioneers who have achieved one or more of the following milestones:

• The First 100,000 Pioneers who joined Pi Network
• Pioneers who mined for 365 days between Dec 2024 – Dec 2025
• Pioneers who spent 2,000+ hours in Pi Chats between Dec 2024 – Dec 2025
• Pioneers who explored 50+ Pi apps between Dec 2024 – Dec 2025
• New Pioneers who joined in 2025 and have completed KYC.

If Pioneers fall into one or more of the categories above, eligible Pioneers will receive a popup notification after mining—prompting them to claim the badges and choose which badge to show when engaging on Pi Chats (and Fireside Forum and Pi Social Profiles within the next week). 

Sharing your badges on social media will serve to automatically enter you in the Pi merchandise raffle. Once a badge is claimed, in-app instructions will guide Pioneers on how to share their badge on social media.

After sharing, Pioneers can submit the link to their post through an in-app flow. Valid submissions will be entered into a raffle for Pi-branded merchandise. The deadline to enter the raffle will be 11:59 PM PST on Pi Day, March 14. 150 winners will be randomly selected from a raffle process! Note that the Pi merchandise fulfillment will be facilitated through a third-party, so raffle winners will be limited to the geographic availability of this site, which includes over 220 countries and regions. Also, if selected winners turn out to have submitted invalid content, they will be disqualified and another winner will be randomly drawn again. 

This initiative is designed to highlight the diverse ways Pioneers contribute to the network—from early adoption and consistent mining to ecosystem exploration and community engagement.

Contribute to Ecosystem Design: Review the Ecosystem Token Framework

Ecosystem token design plays a central role in ensuring that token creation on Mainnet supports real products and sustainable utility. Pi’s approach is to integrate crypto tokens directly into the evolutionary process for products and innovations. In last week’s Open Network anniversary content, Pi released information about ecosystem token design in the anniversary blog and video featuring Pi Founder Chengdiao Fan, as well as in a Pi Request for Comment (PiRC) to the community. 

Slice of Pi: Another Fun Demonstration of Pi’s Gaming Utility!

Slice of Pi, a Pi-integrated third-party game, was recently released. The game challenges users to strategically slice fruit perched on platforms above a blender so every piece falls cleanly inside.

Like the FruityPi game released last year, Slice of Pi is a live demonstration of Pi’s gaming utility in action. It integrates Pi payments and the Pi Ad Network into the gaming experience—showing how Pi and Pi platform-level utilities can support apps as tangible, sustainable, and inclusive mechanisms within the Pi app ecosystem.

Pi Day has consistently served as a moment to share Pi’s major progress, current work, and more. This year’s Pi Day will continue that pattern, with updates across products, tools, and initiatives that advance long-term utility and real-world adoption.
