Billionaire hedge-fund legend Ray Dalio dropped a quiet bombshell in a Bloomberg interview this morning: 1% of his personal portfolio is now in Bitcoin.

For context, Dalio’s family office manages north of $100 billion in assets. That means he’s personally holding something like $1 billion+ in BTC instantly making him one of the largest known individual Bitcoin whales on the planet.

This isn’t the “I own a little crypto” hedge that most billionaires give. Dalio has spent years publicly wrestling with Bitcoin calling it “one hell of an invention” while warning about government bans and volatility. Back in 2021 he admitted to having “some” Bitcoin, then upgraded it to gold-like “digital gold” status.

Now the number is out: 1% is real money for a 76-year-old who built the world’s biggest hedge fund on diversification and risk parity.

His exact quote:

I have some Bitcoin. Probably about 1% of my portfolio. It’s an alternative money, and in a world where cash is being debased, it has a place.”

Translation from Dalio-speak: Bitcoin just graduated from speculative toy to legitimate portfolio diversifier in the same bucket as gold (which he’s also famously 7-10% allocated to).

Markets barely blinked – BTC is flat on the news – but the signaling effect is massive. When the guy who literally wrote the book on how the economic machine works puts nine (or ten) figures into Bitcoin at $82k, it’s another nail in the “crypto is just for degens” narrative.

For the rest of us, it’s a reminder: even the most cautious billionaire on Earth now thinks 1% in Bitcoin is prudent.
