Why religions are still popular and strong among people living in 2019? how many people are still so influenced by them?
Yuval N. Harari in his best selling book, Homo Sapiens, has a point of view on this.
Make it abstract, Harari thinks religions are stories some called messengers have told and some people have believed. the power behind them which make them still acceptable is they give very simple answers to the most sophisticated questions ever.
Questions like how we have been created, life after death and so on. And no surprise those answers don't tolerate doubt and asking for more clarity and only ask believers to accept and obey.
Bertrand Russell says about such disobedience and God: "And if there were a God, I think it very unlikely that He would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence"
Anyway, if you are a believer or an atheist, it would be very wise to keep your beliefs personal and not impose your ideology to others. This may be described best as agnosticism.
