Three prominent politicians have recently disclosed that they own Bitcoin, providing further evidence that Bitcoin usage is growing across the political spectrum. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, and Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have each acquired varying amounts of Bitcoin over the past several years:

Adams was recently criticized for failing to report his Bitcoin holdings on an annual financial disclosure form, but has said that he thought the question on the form only applied to securities.

Suarez has been a vocal supporter of Bitcoin for several years, and he even takes at least part of his mayoral salary in Bitcoin. He has said previously that he sees Bitcoin as a way to attract businesses and investment to Miami.

Kennedy has made waves as a Bitcoin supporter on the campaign trail in recent months, and has said repeatedly that he will make sure that U.S. citizens have the right to hold and use Bitcoin if he is elected president.
These politicians are, of course, far from the only people who own Bitcoin, as its currently estimated that tens of millions of people or more have used Bitcoin in some form or fashion. However, given their positions in power, it’s likely that we’ll see more politicians disclose their Bitcoin holdings as Bitcoin’s prominence continues to grow – many commentators believe such disclosures help to ensure that there’s transparency and accountability, and that these politicians are not using their positions to enrich themselves.
