I have had the pleasure to speak with various women-led NFT projects, 1/1 artists and women who are working in web 3. Women, who allow other females in this space, the opportunity to share their work, while sharing their own knowledge & experiences to educate newcomers in this ever-growing community.
And this article is no different. I had the opportunity to speak with NFT artist of Glam Poodles to discuss a topic that is close to both of our hearts. That is female empowerment in web 3. I wanted to share with you all her thoughts on female empowerment on the blockchain and how that may differ from web2. I love speaking with Glam Poodles because of our shared mission in this space. She gave us the pleasure to learn more about her projects mission and the opportunities she provides female creatives in web 3.
Glam Poodles was created by founder & creator Heather (HETH-ER) who generates 10,000+ unique PFP’s (profile pictures) with the mission to build a fun and inclusive community that is dedicated to promoting both creativity and entrepreneurship of women and gender non-conforming individuals, on the blockchain. If you are interested in learning more about female empowerment in web 3, want to learn about the opportunities available to you as a female creative in this space, or if you just want to learn how female empowerment in web 3 differs from web 2, keep reading!
1. What do you define as female empowerment?
To me, female empowerment is the embodiment of celebrating and uplifting women and those with feminine energy so that we may all reach a place of strength and confidence that allows us to reach our full potential of impact in the world. For too long, women have had to mold themselves around the masculine ideals of what our femininity “should” be.
Conforming to these ideals has been necessary to be accepted and taken seriously in society, in the workplace, and even in relationships. Women have unique abilities and we should be allowed and encouraged to shine authentically. The world desperately needs the voices of women of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures to help pave the way to a brighter future.
2. To you, what does female empowerment in web 3 look like?
Web 3 is providing limitless opportunities for people to connect with each other and make their voices heard. Right now, the possibilities for this technology seems endless, and we need to capitalize on this moment to carve out a spot in this new space. I think one of the most important ways we can create opportunities for women in web 3 is for us to unite with other women and find the ways our identities intersect. This is what I think female empowerment in web 3 looks like.
What we have in common is so much greater than the things that pull us apart. It is important for us to create space for each other to learn and grow. We need to fully support each other, cherish our unique and diverse perspectives, and lead with empathy in building an accessible and equitable place where we can all thrive. To me, that support means that some of us (myself included) need to take a step back to allow other voices to come forward and be heard.
Although web3 is drawing in many women into communities, there are still some women and non-conforming identities who are still not finding opportunities to come forward and share their voices. We cannot empower some while leaving others at the door. There is space for us all here and it is so important to build a truly just and balanced arena while we are still on the ground floor of this new technology.
3. How does that differ from web 2 or real life experiences?
The focus in web2 and in real life is often focused on the self or on our small inner circles. I find there is limited crossover with people outside of our own bubbles and it is easy to get caught in an echo chamber of like-minded thinkers. The web3 space is blasting a hole through our normally defined spaces and allowing us to communicate and connect like never before.
In web3 we are able to find, listen to, and connect with so many experiences that we don’t usually encounter. It is so important the we listen and learn from each and every one of these new experiences. We are being granted a window into the way other people live around the world – from many cultures, races, and states of being.
With this access, we have the responsibility to grow mindfully in ourselves and hold these new perspectives in our hearts while we continue our own individual journeys. Keeping these connections and experiences close will help us lead with compassion and make room and opportunities for those we come into contact with.
4. What projects/work do you have going on right now that contributes to empowerment for female artists in the NFT space?
The Glam Poodles vision is to put the spotlight on women and non-conforming identities who are entrepreneurs in the creative arts. Our mission is to bring artists and collectors together across web2 & web3 to share their work, form meaningful connections with their peers, and have fun together while learning in this new space.
We are currently starting our first Creator Spotlight series that is aiming to put a monthly spotlight on up-and-coming artists in the web3 community. We hope to bring audiences to the projects in our spotlights, push forward the efforts of artists and creators in this space, and connect people together in a fun and supportive community that is rooted in empathy and understanding.
5. Lastly, what can we expect next from GLAM POODLES?
In the near future we are looking to continue our Creator Spotlights for up-and-coming artists and keep having meaningful conversations with different members of our community to ensure we are building an accessible platform. The project hasn’t minted yet, but I hope to announce a mint date soon! A significant portion of minting revenue will be invested back into the community.
One way we are looking forward to doing this is by adding art to the Glam Poodle Curation – an art curation from our artists that will be gifted to our members through contests and giveaways. As we grow, I look forward to hearing the voices of Glam Poodle members in shaping how we define ourselves in web3. Ultimately, we hope to keep growing and learning with our community and continue to be an integral part of the way that web3 develops.
