Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.
Genesis 46:1-5
The writers of the Tanakh skipped the part about the journey back to Mitsraim (Egypt) and went right to the reunion, which always make my shed tears of joy.
The chapter talks about the carts and animals that they used to make the trip, but the movie shows them all walking back. A little bit of creative liberties on the part of the writers of the Joseph movie.
The Actual text speaks of Jacob's vision where God speaks to him and tells him about the plan to make him a great nation. He also included the bit about the man's own death.
The cover photo shows the moment when Joseph lays eyes on his long lost (and very missed) father. But the study of this chapter will continue next week with an accounting of the things they brought and moving on to the children that make up that great nation.

So Israel took his journey iv with all that he had and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here I am." Then he said, "I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation. 1 myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again, and Joseph's hand shall close your eyes."
Then Jacob set out from Beersheba. The sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
