We have knocked out 42 chapters in the Tanakh so far. In my personal reading, I am getting ready to finish Isaiah.

The chapter starts with some time having passed, and they are hungry. Jacob's flat refusal to let them return to Mitsraim (Egypt) with Benjamin is still ringing in their ears. Now he comes out, as the grain had run out, and asks his sons to go to the man in Egypt and get some more. Judah told him that the man would not see them if they did not bring the smallest brother with them. Remember, they were accused of being spies! The man I speak of is Joseph, of course.

This story reminds me that the Creator sometimes moves in ways that we do not understand, in this case, even causing hard times to the point of starvation. He has a blessing for Jacob, the return of his son, and Jacob will not know what the Creator is doing until he gets there. Blessings sometimes feel like curses until we see them unfold. Chin up!

Now the famine was severe in the land. And when they had eaten the grain that they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, "Go again, buy us a little food." But Judah said to him, "The man solemnly warned us, saying, 'You shall not see my face unless your brother is with you.'" If you will send our brother with us, we will go down and buy you food. But if you will not send him, we will not go down, for the man said to us, 'You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.'"
