The former CEO of the bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox, is going to work for a new Japanese blockchain company. Karpeles announced this during a meeting in Japan, according to media platform, The Mainichi.

At the Foreign Correspondents Club in Japan, Karpeles talked about his new position as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Tristan Technologies Co. He can "start from 0" in his new position, says Karpeles.

Tristan Technologies wants to develop a blockchain-based operating system. This should work many times faster than the currently available operating systems.

During his announcement, Karpeles announced that he hopes to make Japan a world leader again in the field of technological innovation. Japan is said to have fallen behind by companies such as Facebook, Amazon and Apple. He said:

Japan was one of the super powers in the field of PC engineering, but now, in the cloud, for example, the United States is dominating. But I still believe in the potential of Japan and I would like to develop that.

Karpeles was recently acquitted of a variety of charges. He got it on his pants after the collapse of Mt. Gox, the exchange that he took over in 2011. However, he was sentenced for 2.5 years unconditionally for adjusting data from the exchange.

Mt. Gox is a notorious bitcoin exchange that was hacked in 2014. More than 850,000 bitcoins (BTC) were lost during the hack, which was worth about $ 450 million at that time. Many investors are still waiting for their bitcoins that were lost during this hack.
