On June 23 2020, Senator, Graham, Lindsey Introduced a Bill to the Senate by the title of S.4051. This Bill will allow law enforcement agencies to access encrypted data “and things for others purposes.”
The bill can be read here , which explains it in full.
In Abstract or TLDR: States Any and All companies must create a secure backdoor for the government to access a citizens private information in full, at the expense of the company, and any damage done will be reimbursed in the amount of $300 to said company(lol). All companies mobile or desktop/laptop like, Google, HTC and even Apple will be mandated to create an entry to all private and encrypted data to make Policing warrants easier to access and use against you. This means if an officer asks to see your phone, he has the right to make you unlock it, and view its contents under law(Prepare your nastiest dick picks for this one). What could this mean?
- More Abuse of Power
- Less Privacy
- More Stupid Arrests
- Governments likely to sell your data directly to benefit them
- Deter further domestic investment in tech companies that value user privacy
- Investors: The ability to read your screen’s actions to pump and dump the market more than already so, keeping you poor
- Cryptocurrency: You should make a paper wallet for this; they would access to view your passwords and keys to anything and everything pertaining to assumed actions
- Some Cryptocurrency and Blockchain firms could see a breach in total privacy and less anonymity, possibly leading to Chinese-like takeover of blockchain technologies
- Some coins, like Bitcoin, could prove impossible to alter/hack, so the gov’t would have legal precedent to prohibit banks from receiving funds from crypto exchanges, wallets, or enact other nefarious deterrence methods
- Keep in mind, this bill will give outside hackers (hostile foreign gov’ts included) the ability to hack government servers, and follow the ease of access leisure, that is, a backdoor to encryption
You thought the government was spying on you already, just wait until they own everything you do on your device and know anything and everything you do.
Will cryptocurrency stand strong against this? Will those who are highly intelligent be able to keep this bill from getting passed? We can only hope so.
