Game and Fi

The vision of “more Game and less Fi” is not enough for the 2023 GameFi industry. It requires the concept and image to be reshaped for broader player acquisition.

It’s about the culture. A culture that was established in 2021 in which ROI calculation was emphasized by projects and players. This idea haunts the development of GameFi - there are too many appetite-spoiled people.

This put the dev team into an embarrassing situation: If you don’t please the players with satisfactory rewards, they won’t join the game. On the contrary, too much reward and promise not only gives false expectations to participants but could also damage game economy.

I attended several roundtables discussing the future of GameFi recently. Not any project can express the idea of sustainability in detail but just scratching the surface in Cliché. No clear roadmap has been revealed as a guideline for GameFi future, but attempts are still right there.

Gaming Experience

One of the most promising approaches is to take the gaming experience to the next level. Fantasy IP, MMORPG and even VR integration.. Providing reasons to players to own but not mainly to earn could be the first priority. Make token consumption as a need but not a means.

It’s not an easy task. There are several questions that Dev team should ask themselves often:

• Is the NFT worth showing off?
• How could the NFT bring value to real life?
• How to have the game long-lived?

If the NFT is worth showing off, it’s more likely to achieve word of mouth and natural growth as the community would help spread the news.

When NFT brings value to real life such as entertainment, social needs or O2O benefits, less focus will be on whether it is profitable or not.

Players get bored easily and always like new stuff. The evolution of the game should be considered at the first design stage. I personally love to see any kind of Storyline provided to be played freely and can be more interesting/easy if paid. “Let the story to be continued” as players best wishes.

Conclusion

It’s a tough era for CryptoCurrency where many experienced loss and cannot keep the faith. GameFi, I viewed it as a derivative of DeFi which stands on top of the entertainment value and could be a saver that really brings something valuable to this world.

And there are still many available technologies and ideas that are not integrated into the GameFi industry yet. Hopefully we can see a great advance in 2023.
