What is their business model?
Honeygain sells access to your bandwidth to third parties. While this does sound somewhat odd, here are some facts:
- They claim the use of your bandwidth is 100% secure. From their website:

- You'll barely realize your bandwidth is used if you have 10Mbps or more downstream speed. I'm sharing with 100Mbps and couldn't tell from regular bandwidth behavior whether Honeygain is currently running or not.
- You're allowed to use as many connected internet accounts as you wish for sharing bandwidth. The only limitation is that they have to have unique residential IPs. Residential IPs are ones provided by your ISP that are not datacenter IPs. So online services like Digital Ocean won't work with Honeygain.
How do I earn?
Just sign up for an account, download their app and log in. That's it. Some specialities:
- Regular bandwidth sharing: This earns you Honeygain balance passively at a steady rate. This is the normal mode for Honeygain sharers.
- Content Delivery: If you're on Windows or MacOS, you can earn extra (around 6 units per hour!). This is in parallel to regular sharing.
- Winnings: Every couple hours you can open a honey jar that gives you additional units for free:
