Behind the command headquarters sprawled a vast, untamed expanse of land. In the mountainous region bordering the soldiers' base, a pristine forested area lay nestled amidst thick jungles, encircled by imposing, sheer cliffs that seemed to reach for the sky. These towering behemoths of rock acted as an impenetrable natural barrier, safeguarding the command center's logistical heart while exuding an aura of formidable terror.
Despite the foreboding atmosphere, Officer Eli often led her friend, Officer Kian, to this very spot, where she engaged in a daring ritual: scaling these frightful heights, as if it were a routine exercise.
Eli's fingers clung to the rugged mountain edge as she hoisted herself up, one leg extended and ready to ascend. Behind her, Kian set his wristwatch's timer and called out, "Ready?... Go!"
With mesmerizing speed, Eli propelled herself upwards, her formidable arms and legs moving with the swiftness of the wind. The ascent seemed effortless, requiring no safety gear, and she reached the summit with remarkable ease. Perched atop a massive, flat rock at the peak, she swung her legs over the edge, as if it were child's play.
Kian pushed the timer's button and exclaimed, "That was fantastic! You've beaten your previous record by 3 seconds!"
As Eli descended from the mountain, she found Kian seated on the side, engrossed in a video on his tablet, as though nothing else in the world mattered at that moment.
Eli approached him stealthily and playfully removed his headset. "What are you watching?"
"Oh, come on! Give it back! I was just reviewing the jungle park intrusion footage. I had a tech-savvy friend isolate the audio for me."
"Do you have any leads on the girl?" Eli asked as she inspected the tablet.
Kian handed her the headset. "Listen to this."
Eli put on the headset and closed her eyes to concentrate. Amidst rustling sounds and unintelligible murmurs, a few discernible words caught her attention. "A place to sleep... where did you?" "...inn!"
Eli patted Kian's back enthusiastically. "You're a genius!"
"I believe she might be homeless," Kian mused calmly. "Why else would she spend a night in an inn or up a tree? It's possible she's lost her family and has no one. I can't help but feel sympathy for her."
However, Eli paid little heed to Kian's compassionate words and interrupted his train of thought. "It's brilliant! I say we focus on the nearby inns!"
Kian took the tablet and headset, stowing them in his side bag. He muttered, "Why is it so crucial for you to catch her? Could it be because..."
Eli grinned mischievously. "What do you mean? I'm just doing my job."
Then, her face lit up with a triumphant smile. "And I'm sure Dr. Faris would be thrilled to hear about this new research subject we're about to acquire, don't you think?"
