A delicate, girlish index finger went up to the petals of the violet in the vase, caressing its light blue velvety skin. Then with a tempting softness, a flower petal wrapped around the girl's finger, and a tiny voice giggled: "Don't! It tickles!"
“ Oh! I'm sorry! Ah…” Nika responded to the flower’s half-hearten complaint while taking her hands away and staring out the window, watching buildings upon buildings.
“ What is it?” Flower asked, sensing the girl’s dissatisfaction.
“ I’m so bored! I miss the forest. I miss the trees and the pleasant sound of the plain!” Nika replied to the flower’s concern.
“ Well, You can listen to music on your cellphone!” The flower consulted, trying hard to be helpful.
“ You’re right! Let me see! How do I find music?” The girl mumbled, starting to click on her phone, aimlessly with innocent confusion.
“ You have to download it first!” The flower patronized, watching her struggle!
“ Oh?” Suddenly Nika’s tone changed, as if something unusual had happened.
“What is it again?” The violet asked.
The young girl continued digging into her phone with her eyes and replied: “ I just got an email!”
“ Email? What is an email? What if it’s dangerous?” said the violet with a fear in its voice.
But Nika wasn’t worried, as she had been using the cellphone for quite a while and she was kind of used to it “ No! Don’t frat! As I gathered, an email is a message that someone sends you on the phone!”
Nika pressed her finger on the message and it opened instantly. A new folder was seen inside the message. Nika clicked on the folder too, opened it, and began to read.
The violet became impatient, "What does it say?"
The girl suddenly got frustrated and jumped out of her chair “Oh my God!”
“What? What it is?”
Nika took the cell phone in front of the flower, but the violet got mad and yelled in her tiny adorable voice: “Hey! I'm only one year old! I don't know how to read and write your people’s language!”
Nika screamed: “It says because of the infectious monsters attacking the city, they’re going to set fire to the forest park and the area around it to hinder their invasion! It also has warned all the citizens to stay away from that area!”
“Forest Park? The same place that your tree friend and other trees are?” Was the first question coming out of the violet's mouth.
But Nike didn’t hesitate, by stating the obvious: “I have to go! I won’t let them burn the forest!”
Nika heard the desperate voice of the flower while walking away: “No! Don't go, Nika! How are you going to stop them?”
“I’ll think of something!” Was her last reply as she hurried out.
Then she quickly jumped down from the window shelf and went straight to her room. Suddenly she saw Sergeant Sarin sitting on the floor in front of one of the boxes and holding a picture frame in his arms. Sarin’s eyes were puffed out from crying, and his face was completely covered in his sorrow. She figured the picture frame certainly belonged to his fiance, considering he was sitting next to her boxes.
Nika stopped for a second, her haste melted for a second, and became kind of sad, thinking about what must have happened to the man’s fiancé that made him so dark and distant: “Ah! Sorry! I did not want to disturb you!”
“No! Not at all! This is your room! I should not have entered without permission!” Sarin answered while getting up. He then came out holding the photo frame. After yesterday's terrible operation, he had taken a half day off and the scars and injuries of the previous day were still visible on his face.
Nika stood there for a second, but her heart was divided. She wanted to stay and consult the man, but her love for her beloved tree was as strong as ever. She went to her room and dressed up fast. Standing there in front of the mirror she thought: “I know he is hurt and needs me, but my tree needs me too and I can let them burn it without a fight!
The determined girl sneaked out of the room while having her bag behind her.
Sarin called for her: “I need to tell you something!”
Nika squeezed the key card in the palm of her hand and left the house with a garbage bag: "Can it wait? I have to throw out the garbage!"
Sarin carefree sat on the couch: “OK! But It's important! Please come back soon!”
As she left, Sarin looked down and stared at the face of a charming brunette with long straight hair in the photo grinning: “Her name is Nika! A strange and kind girl! You would’ve loved her!"
"Ah! Tarah! I wish you were here to tell me if I am doing the right thing!" He beamed with a hidden sadness.
