Serie A 2026-27: Three Perfect Starts as Roma, Inter and Lazio Set the Early Pace

Roma, Inter and Lazio remain perfect after Matchday 3 of Serie A 2026-27. Full results, standings, key goals, ecc.

Three rounds into the new Serie A season, the first real shape of the championship is beginning to emerge. Roma, Inter and Lazio are the only teams still perfect, all sitting on nine points after three matches.
But the numbers do not tell the whole story.
Roma needed a dramatic late comeback against Atalanta. Inter overturned a two-goal deficit against Napoli in one of the most entertaining games of the weekend. Lazio completed the trio on Monday night by coming from behind to defeat Udinese away from home.
Behind them, Como continue to be one of the biggest surprises of the opening weeks. The promoted Frosinone are also making noise with six points, while Milan and Juventus remain close to the leaders on seven.
At the other end of the table, Fiorentina, Genoa and Venezia are still searching for their first points.

A weekend built around comebacks
The third round began on Friday, September 4, with Como producing a convincing 4-1 away victory at Genoa.
Saturday then delivered two of the weekend's biggest stories. Torino finally picked up their first win of the season in Florence, while Inter produced a stunning second-half comeback against Napoli. Roma completed the day by overturning Atalanta in stoppage time.
Sunday brought three draws, including the 1-1 heavyweight meeting between Juventus and Milan, while Monday closed the round with victories for Cagliari and Lazio.
The ten matches produced 32 goals, an average of 3.2 per game. Every fixture featured at least one goal, while nine of the ten matches produced two or more.
That is an impressive attacking return, although it remained well below Serie A's modern single-round record of 48 goals.

Roma survive Atalanta's challenge
Roma's 2-1 victory over Atalanta was perhaps the clearest example of the character emerging from Gian Piero Gasperini's team.
The hosts controlled large portions of the opening period, but Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi repeatedly kept his side alive.
Roma eventually paid for their inability to convert their chances when Éderson opened the scoring early in the second half.
The game appeared to be slipping away from the home side, yet Roma continued attacking.
Mario Hermoso levelled the score in the 90th minute with a header from a corner.
Then came the decisive moment.
In the third minute of stoppage time, Matías Soulé found space inside the box and produced the winning finish.
Roma moved to nine points with ten goals scored and only one conceded after three matches, making them the current leaders on goal difference.

Inter turn a 0-2 deficit into another statement win
If Roma's comeback was dramatic, Inter's was even more spectacular.
Napoli arrived at San Siro determined to recover from their defeat against Como and initially looked capable of doing exactly that.
After a goalless opening half, Matteo Politano gave Napoli the lead shortly after the restart.
Rasmus Højlund then doubled the advantage.
At that point, Inter appeared to be heading towards their first defeat of the campaign.
Instead, Cristian Chivu's side changed the game.
Lautaro Martínez pulled one back, Marcus Thuram levelled the score, and the Inter captain returned in stoppage time to score the winner.
The final sequence gave Inter a 3-2 victory and preserved their perfect record.
It was more than three points. It was another demonstration that Inter can remain dangerous even when the match moves away from their control.

Lazio join the leaders
The third team at the summit had to wait until Monday night.
Lazio travelled to Udine and fell behind early in the second half when Jens-Lys Karlström opened the scoring.
Gennaro Gattuso's side gradually increased the pressure.
Davide Frattesi equalised in the 75th minute after a move involving Mattia Zaccagni.
Eight minutes later, Albert Guðmundsson completed the comeback with a header.
The 2-1 victory means Lazio have won all three of their opening matches and join Roma and Inter at the top with nine points.

Como are becoming a genuine early-season surprise
The most unexpected name near the top is Como.
Cesc Fàbregas' team produced perhaps their most convincing performance yet by winning 4-1 away at Genoa.
The hosts took an early lead through Osmajic, but Como responded immediately.
Martin Baturina levelled, Assane Diao put the visitors ahead, Nico Paz made it 3-1 before half-time, and Diao completed his brace after the interval.
Como now have seven points from three games and sit fourth.
For a team that entered the season with questions about how quickly it could adapt to the demands of Serie A, the early answer has been extremely positive.

Torino finally get their first win
Torino left Florence with their first three points of the campaign after beating Fiorentina 2-1.
Pellegrino put the hosts ahead, but Rolando Mandragora levelled with a spectacular long-range finish.
Che Adams then completed the comeback.
For Fiorentina, the situation is much more complicated. Three defeats from three matches leave them bottom of the table, with only one goal scored and nine conceded.

Frosinone keep climbing
Frosinone are another team worth watching.
After winning in Florence during the previous round, the newly promoted side defeated Venezia 3-2 at home.
Antonio Raimondo scored twice in the first half, taking his league total to four goals.
Venezia fought back through Yeboah and Sagrado, but Kvernadze restored Frosinone's lead in the 83rd minute.
The result takes Frosinone to six points and leaves Venezia without a point after three matches.

Juventus and Milan share the points
The weekend's final major clash on Sunday ended 1-1.
Juventus created several opportunities and hit the post through Francisco Conceição, but Milan eventually took the lead through substitute Alphadjo Cissé.
The Rossoneri looked set to leave Turin with all three points until Federico Gatti equalised in stoppage time.
The draw leaves both clubs on seven points, two behind the three leaders.

The rest of the round
Parma and Monza collected their first point of the season after a 1-1 draw. Jay Robinson put Monza ahead before substitute Simone Lontani equalised for Parma.
Bologna and Sassuolo also shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Doig and Adžić scored for Sassuolo, while Piccoli and Dovbyk rescued Bologna.
Cagliari defeated Lecce 1-0 thanks to Daniel Maldini's header from a corner.
The results leave a clear gap between the teams still chasing the leaders and those already under pressure.

Serie A table after Matchday 3
The top three are separated only by goal difference. Roma lead Inter and Lazio, while Como, Milan and Juventus remain within striking distance.

What the third round tells us
The most important conclusion is that the early championship race is already taking shape, although it is far too early for definitive predictions.
Roma have the best numbers. Inter have shown the ability to win spectacularly difficult matches. Lazio have quietly matched them with three victories.
Como are the early surprise, while Frosinone have demonstrated that their promotion has not changed their ambition.
Milan and Juventus remain within two points of the leaders, meaning the top six are separated by only two points.
Napoli, meanwhile, have work to do after two defeats in a row.
At the bottom, Fiorentina, Genoa and Venezia need results quickly, although the season is still in its opening phase.

Looking ahead to Matchday 4
The fourth round begins on Friday, September 11 with Venezia-Fiorentina.
Among the weekend's most interesting fixtures are Lazio-Milan, Atalanta-Cagliari, Torino-Roma, Napoli-Bologna and Inter-Udinese.
That means the leading positions could change again almost immediately.

The third round has therefore left Serie A with three leaders, several credible challengers and a bottom section already under pressure. The season is only three games old, but the first signs of a fascinating championship are already there.
