This decision marks the beginning of a new era: more transparency, more controls, and more protection for users. Italy has decided to accelerate cryptocurrency regulation by setting a precise deadline by which all operators must comply with the new European regulations outlined in MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets). The key date is December 30, 2025, after which no platform will be allowed to operate in our country without obtaining the required authorization.

This is an important decision that marks a sharp departure from the current model, which allowed crypto service providers (the so-called VASP) to operate with a simple registration at the OAM (Organismo Agenti e Mediatori). With MiCA, however, the game changes completely: to continue operating, platforms must become full-fledged CASP (Crypto-Asset Service Providers), obtaining formal authorization and undergoing much stricter controls.

The message from the authorities is clear: “Anyone wishing to remain in the Italian market must demonstrate seriousness, stability, and transparency.”
A tightening that does not aim to hinder innovation, but to protect it.

By the established deadline, each platform must:

submit an official MiCA authorization request;

demonstrate financial, organizational, and security requirements;

adopt clear policies against fraud, market abuse, and consumer risks.

Platforms that submit their application on time will be able to continue operating until June 30, 2026, awaiting a response.
Those who fail to comply with the regulation will have to cease operations in Italy and, above all, return all funds to customers. This is a point on which the Italian legislature has been unwavering.

The goal is twofold:

Protect users, who have often been exposed to unregulated, opaque, or unreliable operators.

Align Italy with the rest of Europe, bringing stability and credibility to an often volatile sector.

It is also a way to distinguish those operators who are truly reliable.
The transition may “weed out” many makeshift services, leaving room for only solid, transparent platforms with real business plans.

For simple users, the consequences are immediate:

it will be easier to tell if a platform is secure or not;

the risk of losing funds due to sudden platform failures will be drastically reduced;

the quality of services should improve, thanks to new European standards.

The authorities' advice is simple: make sure the platform you use has declared how it intends to comply with MiCA.
If they don’t say anything, they probably aren’t ready — or don’t intend to stay in Italy.

This deadline is not just a formality: it represents an effort to bring order and protection to a sector that has moved too quickly for years, with few rules. The crypto market in Italy will become more mature, more credible, and, most importantly, safer for investors.
