Digital wallets have evolved far beyond contactless payments, and Google is taking another step in that direction.
A new feature rolling out for Google Wallet allows users to view and track their online purchases directly inside the app, reducing the need to search through email confirmations or visit shipping websites. More Than a Digital Wallet

When Google Wallet first appeared, its primary goal was simple: replace physical payment cards.
Today, the app stores boarding passes, loyalty cards, event tickets, digital IDs in supported regions, hotel keys and much more. Adding online order tracking represents another move toward making Wallet a central destination for everyday digital life.
Instead of acting only as a payment tool, Google is gradually transforming it into a personal dashboard for important information.

How Order Tracking Works

The new feature doesn't monitor every purchase made on the internet.
Instead, it works by using order confirmation emails received in Gmail. If users have Gmail's Smart Features enabled, Google can extract information such as the retailer's name, order number, shipping updates and delivery status.
Those details are then displayed inside Google Wallet, allowing users to check their purchases without opening their inbox or searching through multiple emails.
Because the information already exists inside the user's Google account, the experience feels almost automatic.

Where the Feature Is Available

At launch, Google has made the feature available only in the United States.
There has been no official announcement regarding availability in Europe or other international markets.
Although Google often expands new services over time, regional privacy regulations and local compliance requirements could affect the rollout schedule outside the U.S.
For European users, there is currently no confirmed release date.

Convenience Comes With Privacy Questions

Every new feature that collects or organizes personal information naturally sparks discussion.
In this case, Google emphasizes that order tracking depends on Gmail settings chosen by the user. If Smart Features are disabled, the order information is not processed in the same way.
Even so, some users may feel uncomfortable knowing that purchase confirmations can be organized automatically across multiple Google services.

For now, users outside the U.S. will need to wait for future announcements from Google.

At first glance, tracking online purchases inside Google Wallet may seem like a minor update.
In reality, it reflects a much larger shift toward digital platforms that aim to manage nearly every aspect of daily life.
Whether users embrace this level of integration or prefer keeping services separate will likely depend on how much value they place on convenience versus privacy.
