On February 10, 2026, Lewis-Payne entered i3Bank in Omaha and robbed the institution while threatening two employees with a firearm. He left with approximately $9,175 in cash. Bank surveillance captured his uncovered face and clothing, while additional cameras helped investigators follow the trail beyond the bank. The Justice Department said he later used some of the stolen money to purchase shoes and clothing at retailers around Westroads Mall. As artificial intelligence becomes more capable and more common, cases like this are likely to generate difficult discussions about safety, privacy, evidence and responsibility. The essential point remains simple: AI can be a tool, but the responsibility for criminal choices remains human.
