We have heard this phrase for years, there is even a song by Lenny Kravitz with that title... but what is the truth in all this... is the rock n roll music that shook the world since the end of the 50's dying? .
or what one day was will no longer be and other rhythms such as urban and street music have gained ground and are sending elderly uncles like KISS, the rolling stones or even Don Paul McCartney to retirement in a nursing home ... apart from this the music made in Latin America known as REGGETON with more obscene lyrics than GUNS N ROSES and with more perversion than SLAYER and all TRASH METAL is the one who rules the world and the industry
I can remember a time that I didn't live, I wasn't really born, specifically in the mid 70s where bands like KISS and QUEEN dominated the world some from North America and others from the UK, but then came a wave of something sticky that was born in the nightclubs of new york called music and disco and then came a great crisis for the rock n roll industry in fact the great king ELVIS had died.
Then came the depression, the decline and losses or low sales for the rock world, even other greats like LED ZEPPELIN AND BLACK SABBATH separated, well SABBATH continued without OZZY OSBOURNE. Disco music also gained more ground thanks to the movie "Saturday Fever". at night" and what was the response of KISS AND QUEEN,? .. enter the fire, follow the game and each one released a couple of hits with a rock sound and disco music that today are considered anthems of rock and universal music.
kiss attacked with a song called "iwas made for loving you" and QUEEN with his "another want bites the dust" very catchy, danceable sales record and the funniest even rock anthems and disco music too .. or as they say. If you can not beat the enemy , join , it was all a matter of knowing how to enter the field of war , fight and win.
then came the 80s kiss went out for a period, the glamor bands from california were up to the task and also the rough metal ones like those from san francisco METALLICA, and ANTHRAX .. but a new movement arose not in the clubs but in the streets a derivative of BREAKDANCE that was called HIP HOP and that gained the attention of many and rose like foam.
PUBLIC ENEMY. DR DRE AND RUM DMC monopolized the attention and the industry but rock was not dead, however on the radio and networks like MTV the listeners and the public fought to say which was the best genre, a very curious alliance arose on the part of some boston veterans AEROSMITH in their friendly union with rappers RUM DMC and a very funny video of their single "walk this way". In the end, who taught us that despite differences and style, you could share and be friends to do good music....
Now, the title of my article rock is dead is precisely taking into account a phrase that GENE SIMMONS leader of KISS has said repeatedly in his comparison between hip hop and rock of recent times where Mr. SIMMONS thinks that more style and glamor today's hip hop stars have than today's rockers ... rock is dead and the industry that really earns money is hip hop ... today's rock is very sad ... well in my opinion the times they change and the rock genre has always gone through crises and momentary absences on the scene, perhaps a generation of relief is rarely seen but every so often the dinosaurs come out from under the earth and hit the roads again and to show we have these guys MOTLEY CRUE today 2022 back on the scene
