It seems that Jeremy Rubin has an idea well developed and supported by important members of the Bitcoin community. His Bip-199 proposal may be the next update in the chain if the outlined roadmap is fulfilled, but it still has many detractors.
Some people are opposed to its implementation, others do not deny it but believe that it should be better studied before taking the step, and as I had mentioned, it also has the support of various personalities from the crypto world inside and outside of Bitcoin.
It is still to be decided what the decision will be but it has a good chance of being the next fork of Bitcoin
