Force field analysis is also a widely used, powerful tool for Brainstorming and Decision making including Root Cause Analysis developed by Kurt Lewin. The process seeks to identify forces that helps in accomplishment or those, which might add resistance in achieving the goal. So in short, it can be assessment of Pros and Cons.

Flip chart or White board is commonly used with two columns for each as below. Team brainstorm and present ideas that are driving to success or might work against the desired goal.

It helps in identifying the forces or factors that will help the team to achieve the goal so those can be leveraged or the forces or factors that can render the team in achieving the goal then these can be minimized or mitigated. In any case, the core benefit of this tool is to give the better understanding of the problem or situation.
