"Gosh how will you do that? The CBDC isn't even here yet." Well, let's start from the beginning.
Imagine you are a journalist or protester who is against a certain policy or act by the police or government. Imagine you are then sanctioned by that government and are no longer allowed to access your bank. Now imagine that all your cash ran out after a few months and all your gold, jewelry or other valuable possessions are all sold just so you could survive. What now?
Bitcoin now. Or Monero, or ETH via Torn whatever, you get the idea: An alternative to banking and directly payable to whomever accepts it as currency or via a third party/Bitcoin ATMs can be converted to cash. I can't stress enough how this point right here is so crucial, to better understand why go read how Canada froze bank accounts and donation sites of the freedom convoy truckers.
If there is another point that accepts crypto and you manage to already have it beforehand or people are willing to directly donate it to, you could basically still manage to get by. But the person in question didn't seem to have that and is basically blocked off from his funds entirely and his family is about to starve. No, this was not is some fictitious galaxy far far away. No this was not in that evil China you keep hearing about or in Venezuela, this is happening right now in the center of the EU.
So what if you didn't have any Bitcoin or other crypto and people are not willing to donate to you? Yeah, that'll be a serious problem. But what if people were willing to donate crypto to you, and we were in the year 2035 where a CBDC was around? Ohh, well now you are all *****.
I learned my centralized authoritarian crypto control lesson years ago with a scam "airdrop" called KICK. Random ETH wallets were airdropped 888888 KICK tokens, but when you tried to send them from your wallet to an exchange or even another wallet, you would waste gas fees and the transaction would fail. Why? They wrote in the smart contract that every last coin was only to be transferred to addresses linked to their own KICK exchange, meaning you had to register on their CEX in order to receive the tokens and trade them. Users who did this found out that after registration they could not even sell the tokens but only stake or use it for transaction fees, which meant you had to actually send more/your own crypto to that exchange just to be able to trade, and all that would happen with the 888888 KICK tokens is they would be used for the transaction fees.
This was in 2018 on an ETH token. Can you imagine what they will be able to do to you, your family, anyone who interacts with you after you've been sanctioned when the CBDC is there? And forget about Bitcoin or Monero, they can simply write in the contract that the CBDC coins who interacted with cryptos will automatically be frozen till further inspection. Your only chance like with the Canada example, and yes I am repeating myself, are wallets which are not linked to you, which had crypto on before they started their privacy purge, sent directly to other crypto wallets that accept it as a direct from of payment. Or maybe for the more tech savvy ones, a mixer/protocol via throw away wallets on a browser that doesn't have a unique fingerprint via VPNs. The real ones of course, not those that are literally under fascist control.
Am I exaggerating? Does the EU care about you and your privacy? Is this something which we should not need to worry about in the freedomish "humanitarian" EU?
