For those not involved in the world of precious metals, platinum had a rather volatile few months in the first quarter of 2020, dropping from almost 30.000 Euro per kilo to just a tad over 18.000 Euro. That's a 40% drop in a few months. I smelled opportunity, but you know, Bitcoin and the entire Crypto market which had been going downwards for months, only just starting to stabilize in that exact same time span in Q1 2020. What to do? A little context: I was familiar with both worlds and actually was involved before in Bitcoin at a time when it was just Bitcoin. As a student at the time, I put in what I could afford to lose, which unfortunately wasn't that much 😅 I made some profit, gradually sold Bitcoin for money more and more as the price kept going up till my initial investment was all gone. Fast forward a few years and this happened with the platinum price

While other precious metals (gold, palladium, silver) were also affected by whatever it was going on at the time, nothing was crashing as drastic as platinum. Believe it or not, volatility was actually the reason I opted for Bitcoin (and other Cryptos) instead of precious metals. All I heard the past years was how "volatile" and untrustworthy the Crypto markets were, but every time I wanted to get some platinum, the price just kept dropping more and more. I guess I was less affected by people's negative talk on Bitcoin because unlike them, I actually had some before they even started their Bitcoin slandering and knew very well both the dangers and the opportunities it had. I understood fully well that these things happen in practically all markets and for being such a young market, Bitcoin wasn't all that bad as people made it out to be.
I admit, I was a bit confused about all the new Cryptos out there, like, where did all these "other" Bitcoins come from? Were they the same and if not, in what way were they different? By now graduated and working, I was able to afford investing some real money this time and started off with what I knew best and just got some Bitcoin at the beginning and later on, after taking the time to learn more about the other Cryptos, I gradually broke sats off and converted them into other Cryptos e.g. Ethereum, Litecoin (yes I made that mistake in the beginning), VeChain, Quant and Waves. This was just the first step, I genuinely got all hyped up again about the possibilities of Blockchain and all these different Cryptos and before I knew it, 75% of my Bitcoin was gone into Alts. I decided to take it easy and just observe and try to make sense of the different price swings I was used to with Bitcoin in comparison to these new Alts. I started to look for use cases and made adjustments in my portfolio, only abandoning Alts which I felt were not sincere to whatever it was that attracted me to them in the first place. It had it's ups and downs, good choices and mistakes, but the bottom line is, no matter how much I do regret some things in life, there's not a day that went by the past 2 years where I regret not opting for platinum instead of Bitcoin.
