Welcome to Hopeful Homesteading everyone.

We are a couple in the Canadian Prairies looking to be as self sufficient as possible and focus on organic food and lifestyle.

Moving on, we want to produce both videos and posts on our blogs relating to the information we have learned and, where applicable, the various reasons we may ignore something that sounds like good advice.

We will be putting out various posts relating to food and food preparation as well. We do both canning and pressure canning, various cooking and baking, gardening and we have chickens in the backyard. There will be lots of information about how we are working to make ourselves more self reliant, allowing us to absorb any loss to local services. For example, in the winter we tend to have occasional power outages. Being prepared for that possibility leaves you in the position to "shrug off" situations where normally it could be a large issue. In fact, as we mention in our video above, our chickens have no heat in their coop for just this reason. They are acclimated to the outside weather and temperature so a power loss means nothing where chickens kept in a heated coop likely wouldn't survive if the power was out too long.
