This is one World Cup in which nobody was satisfied right from the moment Qatar was chosen as the host. It has been bombarded by all kinds of groups who seem to or seemed to be hell bent on making sure that this particular World Cup would be a dismal failure. Now I really don't know if these groups were right or wrong, I really don't know if workers live in as bad conditions as is portrayed, but the one thing I am sure of is that as a sporting event, the Qatar World Cup has been a success. In other World Cups, by this time there had been terrible fights between ultras or fanatics or whatever you want to call them, in Qatar this type of violence has been minimal, so violence in football is avoidable, it seems all it needs is less alcohol consumption.

But this is a sporting event and so far I think it has been great, some of the big teams have been beaten by teams you wouldn't have given a cent for, the Far East teams, Japan and South Korea showed a spirit that makes you feel anything is possible, these guys can be losing by any score but they never give up, you have to admire that. But the thing I have liked the most is Morocco making it to the quarter finals, I have been watching this team for a few World Cups and they always field a very good team with incredible bad luck, losing games that they should have easily won. This time around luck was with them, against Spain they defended as they should and then took advantage of the penalty shoot off. Good for Morocco, and Spain, well Spain has some restructuring to do,  but I think their 7-0 thrashing of Costa Rica was not good for them, I think they relaxed.

Apart from the surprise that Morocco is in the quarter finals, we have what are absolutely the best European and South American teams at the moment in the final eight. I fancy Brazil winning this, but in reality the eight teams have it in them to win it. The Netherlands, I think, deserve a World Cup, it is kind of sad to be in three finals and lose them all, but well all eight teams are where they are because they beat their rivals so whoever wins will be a deserving winner, I actually am a fan of Portugal, but I don't think the cup is for them.
