The Indian Prime Minister's account was hacked to call for crypto donations

A cyber criminal group named ‘John ​​Wick’ has accepted responsibility for hacking the twitter account of the Prime Minister of India, to call for donations with cryptocurrencies.

According to a report from India Today, the Prime Minister's twitter account was taken over by the hacker group nicknamed ‘John ​​Wick’.

"Hackers took over the Twitter account of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and posted a notice asking his followers to donate cryptocurrencies for the COVID-19 pandemic," according to the report.

Phishing tweets were recently posted on the twitter account that has 2.5 million followers of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The hackers asked followers to send cryptocurrency via Bitcoin and Ethereum wallet addresses. However, according to data on the blockchain, no cryptocurrency is sent to these two wallet addresses.

Narendra Modi is not the only celebrity whose account has been hacked for the purpose of cryptocurrency fraud.

On July 15, at least 130 twitter accounts of famous people, including those of former US President Barack Obama and 2020 US presidential candidate Joe Biden, have been taken over by bad guys, aiming to calls on your followers to send them crypto.
