Crypto gaming is becoming more popular, with potential for earning passive income and decentralisation on the mind. The Ethereum blockchain hosts the majority of P2E games, and continues to grow.
The P2E Crypto gaming industry has brought wealth to some and enticing interest, by selling and trading NFT's (Non Fungible Token) collected in games, traded for Cryptocurrency on a marketplace the game allows. A rarity system is introduced to give the NFT's more value, and in many cases, a superior in-game effect.
While its earning potential is certainly nothing to brag about (it wont make you thousands overnight, put it that way), the game in itself is fun, enjoyable, and can be lucrative for eagle eyed players... (Check out my guide on useful tools for GU)
For many games, owning powerful NFT's allows the player to effectively add to their deck, increasing its strength to be more competitive and allow greater rewards.
Let's take a look at Gods Unchained.
GODS UNCHAINED (GODS)
Gods Unchained is a P2E card game, on the Ethereum blockchain. Playing as one of the gods and inheriting powerful cards under your rule, It is a tactical, strategic, turn based game thats proving a lucrative venture for some Crypto hobbyists.
At its core Gods Unchained is a blockchain-based game, enabling users to trade and sell their cards freely, with the same level of ownership as if they were real, tangible cards.
The gameplay of GU is easy to get the hang of through various tutorials provided once you have created your account. The game gives the option of being able to play against AI (Solo), or competitively against other players in Ranked mode.

Once the game commences, you'll be locked into a 1 v 1 against another opponent. Players draw 3 cards to start with 1 drawn at the beginning of each round. Each card has unique effects and consists of mana cost, god, and tribe. Players start with 30 health and the objective is to eliminate the opponents health by laying down creatures in your hand. Each creature with have a health and strength number.
Each god you select will have a unique power you can chose from. Out of three, the player will select one as their permanent power throughout the match. Combined with card attributes given from the deck, powerful combinations can be created which will help the player climb the ranks against more competitive decks.
Through winning matches, players climb the ladder towards the top tier, Mythic. In total, there are 12 tiers. Climbing the ranks can be competitive and difficult, however players in high tiers are rewarded with more chances to win valuable card packs in the Weekend Ranked mode.
By playing the matchmaking mode, players earn experience for level rewards. Each level rewards a rare core pack (core set NFTs), which will help flesh out your deck.

EARNING POTENTIAL
Gods Unchained gives the player a chance to earn its token, GODS. This is distributed in a few ways, however the most popular currently is via the Daily Play to Earn system recently introduced (July ish, 2022). Once redeemed after a short processing time, this token can be used to forge and mint new cards of higher rarity, buy new cards or continue holding for ongoing rewards.
Daily Play to Earn
The daily play to earn system allows players to compete daily in 10 matches for daily rewards paid out in GODS. The more wins players get, the more GODS the player will receive. Rewards can be claimed after a 7 day waiting period and sent directly to the account wallet. There is a downside however as only the first 10 matches per day will be recorded. Losses count and effectively reduce your earning potential.
Ongoing Rewards (Offering of the Gods)
Players can gain rewards for having GODS in their connected wallets. This reward is paid out in a reward period, set by the developers. Depending on whether you meet the criteria.

THE FORGE & NFT RARITY
Every card is effectively a NFT on the blockchain. Using the Forge, players can burn and mint new cards for a better rarity, increasing their value.
The idea is that a number of cards is required to upgrade to the next quality tier. However the higher the rarity of the card, the more expensive the upgrade is. See below for more details.
It is important to note that card rarity and quality are different and both play part in the value of the NFT.

Cost of minting.^
The value of these newly minted NFT's are determined by how many are in circulation (or rarity) and want for that cards specific effects. Adjusting cards in your deck is encouraged as popular meta play is quickly countered.
As new sets and NFT's are introduced, patches are often soon released to balance the cards universally. This generally prevents overpowered cards emerging and deter from cards being played. Balance patches can have an effect on card pricing in the marketplace.
CONCLUSION
Gods Unchained is a great project, with a strong roadmap, detailed content and community with a great knowledge base. An excellent and safe introduction for those looking to invest in a project that is continuously growing. Even with the ups and downs, it's a game that gets you thinking tactically. The game is littered with hidden mechanics that once understood can help you beat opponents with stronger decks.
GU can prove to be lucrative, offering a potential for passive income (but don't quit the day job). Other competing card games such as Splinterlands and Shiba Eternity feature great designs and a solid feel to the games development, however fall short compared to the utility and blockchain advancements that GU has achieved. Theres certainly more on the horizon in the roadmap.
For passive income, it's a great game that players wont have to spend hours on to get good. It's also completely free to play and get started.
