Metaplanet wants to compete with Microstrategy

Metaplanet, a Japanese bitcoin company, has announced that it will acquire 10,000 BTC during 2025.

At the end of 2024, the company held 1,762 BTC valued at approximately $172.42 million. Metaplanet’s CEO, Simon Gerovich, announced plans to buy 10,000 Bitcoins for the coming year. The road to dethroning Microstrategy is still long as the US company owns approximately 446,000 Bitcoin.

Metaplanet is the first major company in Asia to adopt such a strategy to protect its financial assets. The company announced that these acquisitions in 2024 have led to record profits. With these promises of purchases, the company joins Microstrategy and Semler Scientific in the race to cryptocurrency. Semler Scientific officially adopted its bitcoin cash strategy in July 2024. Since then, it has achieved a bitcoin yield of 92.8% from 1 July to 15 December 2024. In the fourth quarter, Semler posted a 67.0% bitcoin return with its holdings doubling from 1,018 to 2,084 BTC.
