The Czech National Bank is considering creating a Bitcoin reserve.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Aleš Michl, the governor of the Czech National Bank (CNB), has renewed his commitment to see the Czech Republic develop a strategic reserve in Bitcoins (BTC). In the long run, of the €140 billion of assets in its reserve, the Czech national bank could hold 5% of Bitcoin, or €7 billion in total. At the current price of just over 100,000 euros per unit, this would be equivalent to obtaining more than 70,000 BTC. It should be a gradual position taken over time, perhaps several years.
Today (30 January 2025), Aleš Michl will present his project and the members of the board will have to vote for or against the measure.
