If you are a WhatsApp mobile Messenger user, we recommend that you update the mobile app, as older versions have a very serious security vulnerability. What exactly is it about?
WhatsApp was forced to release an update
The vulnerability could allow a bad participant to deliver a destructive message to a group chat that would cause the entire application to crash quickly and completely for all members of the group chat. The problem is so severe that users are forced to uninstall and reinstall the application. In addition, the user could not return to the group conversation, resulting in the loss of all of the message history indefinitely.
With this information came security analysts from Check Point, and according to their report, the error is found on both the Android and iOS application. The destruction of the entire application can occur very easily. It is enough for an attacker to use a web browser tool to modify the message for any group chat. A subsequent message would cause the above application crash for all members of the group chat.
Of course, analysts reported the discovered vulnerability to WhatsApp, which immediately brought a fix in the form of a new installation package. The fix is included in application version 2.19.246 and above. It should be noted that the Check Point team have previously discovered several security issues related to WhatsApp.
