Last year there was information that ads would be heading into the app, which should be one of the main revenue for the service itself. According to The Wall Street Journal, however, there have been quite a lot of changes in this project in recent months. According to the report, the team behind the implementation of advertising banners and the system as such should be disbanded, and the entire project should be canceled. At least freezing occurred.
It is likely that ads as such would adversely affect the use of the service. However, this does not mean that your ads will not be in WhatsApp. It is still planned that at least the Status section (temporary story) will show ads like Instagram.
Facebook probably does not plan any banner advertising in the app in the near future, because it was removed all the codes from the application, which were related to the preparation of the deployment of news. As such, the communication service itself remains free and will contain a minimum of advertising, ie in the Status section. Facebook focuses on working with companies that use WhatsApp. This is where the main source of money to maintain profitability should be.
