On Friday, Germany reported another 242 deaths in coronavirus infected people, a total of 4110. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) said today. 3609 new infections are reported on Friday, shifting the overall statistics to 137,439 cases. While the number of deaths is lower than in Thursday, the number of new infections increased for the fourth consecutive day.
A number that indicates how much an infected person on average infects other people is very important experts and politicians who decide on further measures. While this figure was higher than five in Germany at the beginning of the epidemic, it has now fallen below one. If this trend is maintained, the number of people infected in the country will gradually decrease.
Health Minister Jens Spahn said at a press conference in Berlin on Thursday that the epidemic was manageable after the initial rapid increase in the number of people infected. The measures taken were successful. RKI chief Lothar Wieler spoke of a very good interim result in relation to current developments.
Positive developments have already enabled Spahn to announce that hospitals will be returning to normal operations from early May. This will also allow for postponed operations.
Russia has a record 4700 newly infected with coronavirus and 313 deaths
Russia reported another record increase in new cases of coronavirus infection. Over the past 24 hours, more than 4,700 have been added, on Friday the increase has been just over 4,000. The country has 3113 dead.
36,793 people are now infected in Russia. While on Friday the authorities talked about an increase of 4069 people, the current one is 4785. The most affected of all regions is Moscow, which registered 2649 new cases last day. Over 460 people recovered throughout the country.
The number of new deaths remains roughly the same as on Friday, when there were 41, now 40, of which 21 are in Moscow.
In Russia, the number of infected people started to rise sharply in April, although the situation in the country is still calmer compared to the Western states.
Reuters has now written that large numbers of people are not being tested in Russia. The results of tests conducted in private facilities on people who did not show the symptoms of the infection show that the virus is spread far more in the population than official government data indicate.
