Unlike conventional disinfectants, the new product remains effective for up to three months and can be applied to metals, plastics and textiles. According to scientists, it is able to destroy 99.9% of highly infectious viruses from the surface.

Viral diseases such as measles or mumps do not have a chance either. The new substance could offer some hope in a more successful fight against the currently spreading coronavirus for which the vaccine has not yet been invented.

“We use a special type of polymers that are used in many food products. We are re-assembling these polymers for greater efficiency, ”said Hong Kong scientist Yeung King-lun, according to RTHK. At the same time, he added that they have already found manufacturers, which will make their product more widely available. It should reach the market in two to three weeks.

They have a wide range of uses for their newly created disinfection: the spray can be used in hospitals, schools, and nursing homes.
