Recently, the AI Cloud Services division of Huawei has worked with Huazhong University of Science & Technology and Lanwon Technology to develop and launch an AI-assisted quantitative medical image analysis service to address the COVID-19 pandemic.
With Huawei Cloud AI technologies such as computer perception and medical image analysis, the service can automatically, quickly and correctly detect CT quantification results. And possibly break them down by clinicians, which significantly speeds up the diagnosis of medical complications and helps with the lack of doctors who can accurately diagnose COVID-19. This program can relieve quarantine pressure and reduce the already high workload of doctors.
The service also uses the powerful computing capability of the Huawei Ascend AI chips to output a single-case quantization result in seconds. “AI + physician assessment” is many times faster than manual quantitative image evaluation, which greatly improves diagnostic efficiency.
Huawei Cloud's computer learning technology and medical image analysis technology combine clinical information and laboratory results to help doctors more accurately distinguish between the early, advanced, and severe stages of COVID-19, facilitating early screening and prevention or control.
For confirmed cases in hospitals, this AI assistance can perform registration and quantitative analysis of 4D dynamic data for multiple repetitions in a short period of time, helping doctors to efficiently assess patient status and treatment effects.
Based on an analysis of hundreds of COVID-19 cases and uninfected cases, the Huawei Cloud AI-assisted Quantitative Diagnostic Service introduced a peak similarity coefficient (DICE: overlapping between predicted and actual lesions) and absolute volume difference (AVD: volume differences between predicted lesions and actual lesions) segmentation lesion area.
The "AI + CT" Medical Image Analysis Service for COVID-19 was developed and built on the Huawei Cloud EIHealth Medical Image Analysis platform.
The platform leverages the Huawei Cloud AI Ascend cluster service and the single-staged AI development and management platform to implement one-stop management and tagging of medical image data, model training and evaluation, and visualized rendering, providing strong support for universities and hospitals with massive computing AI performance, platform and algorithm.
According to Huawei Cloud, Huawei is working with various industries to implement several AI-based scientific research projects on COVID-19.
"Huawei Cloud has published the results of large-scale computer screening with many research institutions," the company said.
