You know the old saying "If it's too good to be true, it probably is". Well that was my view of Bitcoin and crypto in general. I mean it sounded silly. Oh you can basically create something and call it money and now its valuable? I mean the "way I heard it" you just turned on a computer and created money from nothing and people (who were stupid) would give you real dollars for it. It was stupid and I couldn't believe people were gullible enough to believe in it and worse yet invest in it. That was my belief.
I probably first heard about Bitcoin and crypto somewhere around 2013, truly the early-early days of it. I was investing in the stock market, brick and mortar businesses and more so real estate at that time. I thought I was a pretty savvy guy and doing okay. Looking back I think I was a bit arrogant and thought I knew more than the average guy. I mean I watched CNBC, I watched Jim Kramer, I had done my share of real estate investments. I knew this crypto thing sounded hokey. But, oh how wrong I was.
I really don't know why, my gut says because I had a few "normal" investments go bad, but in 2018 I decided to sit down and really see what this whole Bitcoin thing was all about. I learned that there was way more to it than being turning on a computer and creating money out of thin air. I learned that it was whole new evolution of technology behind it and it would probably change the way many "normal" business would operate. I learned blockchain and the tech behind it would not just change business but investing, finance and the way world will operate in the future. I learned that "my beliefs" that were limited to only my own experiences and if I just would have been more open minded back in 2013 I would probably be a very rich man right now.
One of the more valuable lessons I've learned in life is you cant dwell on what you should have done or beating yourself up saying "If I only would have". You can only affect what you do going forward. So I'm happy to say that in 2018 I took the plunge and got into Bitcoin and crypto. I am by no means wealthy because of it yet, but Im confident that even though 2013 was the early-early years that I was still able to get in early. I believe that in the coming years we will all "be in it" so if you aren't in now you will be eventually so why not get in while its still early.
You might be like me and in two or three years be saying "Sure I wish I could have gotten in sooner but I'm glad I got in when I did"
