1,000,000 Toman sounds like a lot. In Iran, it's $12.
Last year it was $18. Year before $25. The Rial lost 90% in 4 years. Everyone outside Iran talks about sanctions. Inside Iran, we talk about how to survive it.
So I tracked exactly what 1M Toman buys this week in Tehran:
**Food:**
- Chicken (1kg): 380k Toman
- Eggs (30): 210k Toman
- Rice (Iranian, 5kg): 650k Toman
So 1M Toman = not even 3kg chicken + eggs. That's it.
**Mobile & Daily Costs:**
- Mobile data (20GB): 180k Toman
- Bread (Lavash, 10): 150k Toman
- Bus/Taxi for a week: 200k Toman
Everything adds up fast.
**Crypto Escape:**
- USDT (1 token): ~83,000 Toman
- So 1M Toman = 12 USDT
This is why everyone I know converts Rial to USDT on Nobitex the same day we get paid. We don't "invest" in crypto. We use it as a bank account that doesn't melt 2% per week.
If I keep 1M Toman in my bank for 30 days, it buys 10% less. If I keep 12 USDT, it buys the same.
I'm not a trader. I'm just trying to not lose.
How much is 12 dollars in your country? What does it buy? I'm curious.
