Fatality rate worldwide is 6.8% (up 0.01% from yesterday); worldwide, there were 6,058 new deaths reported. There were 73,920 new cases overnight. Worldwide, there are now 2,471,136 cases. (Remember that WHO reports are always a day late, so the real total at 2200 Pacific is actually 2,638,477.) Worldwide, we have lost 169,006 souls to COVID-19, according to this report (the up to the minute number is 184,248 lost).
Spain's fatality rate is 10.42% (up 0.01% from yesterday); Spain had 430 new deaths reported. The total number of infected is 204,178; death toll 21,282.
Italy's fatality rate is 13.39% (up 0.09% from yesterday); Italy had 534 new deaths reported. Italy's death toll is 24,648. Italy's total case count is 183,957.
The UK's death rate today is 13.43% (up 0.2% from yesterday). The UK had 828 deaths yesterday. Total case count is 129,048; death toll 17,337.
I’ve been asked to include Sweden because they had an unusual approach to dealing with the virus. It has not worked. Sweden’s case fatality ratio is 11.51%. Sweden had 185 deaths last night. Their total case load is 15,322 and the death toll is 1,765.
The USA's death rate is 4.83% (up 0.13% from yesterday). USA reported 1,718 new deaths, bringing the total to 37,602. Today's report lists 776,907 cases and 26,634 new cases. Remember that WHO’s numbers are a day behind. Today's actual US total cases at 2200 Pacific is now 894,092 (+9.14%); total US recorded deaths is 47,681 (+5.15%). I say “recorded deaths” because Dr Anthony Fauci has said that the real death toll may be higher because shut ins may have died from this.
More Americans have died from COVID-19 than the number of servicepersons killed in action in the Battle of the Bulge and the Tet Offensive combined, and than the total US casualties at Iwo Jima (26,040). This includes 6,821 killed, 19,217 wounded, and 2 captured but recovered. More Americans have died from COVID-19 than the total Union casualties of the Battle of Gettysburg (23,049). Union casualties at Gettysburg is the total of 3,155 killed, 14,529 wounded, and 5,365 missing or captured.
Another way to look at the data is cases per million people and deaths per million. I added this because some are trying to argue that the infection number of 819,175 and death toll of 45,343 are not bad in comparison with foreign countries. Here are the figures in the format Country/cases per million/deaths per million. Yesterday’s numbers are in parentheses.
USA 2,565/144 (2,475/137)
Spain 4,457/464 (4,367/455)
Italy 3,098/415 (3,043/408)
Germany 1,798/63 (1,772/61)
UK 1,966/267 (1,901/255)
Sweden 1,585/192
Looking at the above data, the USA ranks high in infections per million people and in the middle of deaths per million people. The USA remains likely to shortly overtake Italy in cases per 1 million. Sweden has more deaths per million than the USA.
The USA is 4.25% of the world’s population but now has 32.17% (+0.15% over yesterday) of the world’s COVID-19 cases and 25.87% (+0.36% over yesterday) of the world’s COVID-19 deaths. The USA reports that 4,325,342 tests have been done (+135,340 since yesterday) since yesterday), meaning that the only 1.31% (+0.04%) of the US population of 329,227,746 has been tested.
