Crypto For Newbies: Part 5 - Airdrops

This is a series of guides for crypto newbies, with a focus on investing in Australia, although a lot of the advice will be suitable for a global audience.  This is a guide from the point of view of people new to the space, without in depth knowledge of blockchain, defi etc.. and so will seem very basic to seasoned crypto investors but there seems to be little simple information available to those just starting out.

Part 5 : Airdrops

Airdrops are a great way to acquire free crypto, often in a new project looking for exposure and support.

Most of these airdrops usually need a Twitter share, Telegram group join and BEP-20 address (Binance Smart Chain - Trust Wallet / Metamask / other), or in some cases another type of address if they are in a different ecosystem.  I'm not endorsing any of these specifically, and I would recommend against giving money to these brand new projects without thoroughly researching them as there are a lot of scams about, especially on BSC, but I'm happy to shill the project on Twitter for a few free coins that may or may not be worth anything in future.  I'd consider setting up a new Twitter account just for these retweets, and consider a new/separate BSC address but as you are only sharing your public address there shouldn't be any risk anyway.

The next question is how do you know if you actually have received the airdrop?  You will need to add the token on your wallet and there are a few bits of information you need, the contract address, name, symbol and decimals.  You can usually get this information from the airdrop itself, often in the general information Telegram channel for the project, or you can look it up on BSCScan or Etherscan just beware of scam coins using similar details if you aren’t getting the details direct from the project.  Many of the airdrops don’t drop immediately so you will need to add the token then check back later, sometimes a few weeks after you signed up or even longer.

You can easily add tokens on Metamask & Trust Wallet and I find these easiest to use for airdrops.  You may need to configure Metamask to use anything other than the Ethereum mainnet, it’s easy to find instructions online to access BSC Mainnet for BEP-20 tokens.

It makes the process a lot quicker if you use a list app, such as Google Keep, to save a few details to easily copy and paste the relevant information.  All the below links are Telegram bots that guide you through the process and which info you need for each one, so you will need Telegram in order to participate.  I didn't use it prior to this but it’s actually really easy.

Finally, how do you find these airdrops?  Give me a follow and I will be listing most of the ones I find on my other Airdrop Announcements blog Airdrop Announcements

I'd really appreciate any clicks through the link below as referrals earn a few extra potentially worthless, but possibly worthy tokens!  Get in quick though as they all have end dates, some of which are rapidly approaching!

New Airdrops!
