This is the second of two articles which summarises the best sites and strategies I have found to earn free crypto. I was motivated to find these sites and maximise these opportunities due to the extended crypto winter we had to endure. In each of the different categories I discuss, I have highlighted my favourite sites. Of course, I am sure there are other sites that I haven’t mentioned here or I am not aware of. If you are aware of any interesting ones that I have missed here, then feel free to add them into the comments section below.
At the end of each article, I have provided referral links to each of the sites I have mentioned. The only sites I am recommending here are the ones that I personally use. Of course you don’t need to follow my links but if you chose to it certainly does help me and its greatly appreciated. I hope that you will enjoy these articles and find your next favourite way of earning free crypto here.
Desktop Mining

Figure 1: Minergate supports a broad range of popular crypto currencies
Whilst not strictly speaking free crypto (since you pay for electricity and the wear and tear on your CPU), It is possible to earn a small amount of crypto by monetising your spare CPU capacity by joining a desktop mining pool. The one I use is MinerGate, but I am also aware of others such as Desktop Mining. I have only used MinerGate so can’t really speak about the others. It offers the opportunity to earn a broad range of popular cryptos, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Monero. A number of projects, such as Monero also allow you to mine crypto through their desktop wallets, however, I prefer to use Minergate since you join a pool and therefore can earn the currency at a steady (albeit slow) rate, based on the hash rate you provide, rather than having a miniscule probability of earning the entire block reward.
Marketing campaigns

Figure 2: Keybase have announced a major marketing campaign with Stellar
A number of leading cryptos are actively driving adoption of their currencies through targeted airdrops to certain user communities. The most notable example is the Stellar project, through the Stellar Development Foundation. SDF have previously airdropped stellar to users of Lobstr and Blockchain wallet and currently have an active campaign with the Keybase wallet. They are still accepting registrations and you can receive monthly allocations of XLM over the next year, up to a maximum of $500 per user. I provide a link at the end of the article to sign up for a Keybase account and I recommend you sign up for Stellar’s newsletter to hear about future SDF campaigns.

Figure 3: Electronuem have integrated cloud mining into their mobile wallet
A slightly different approach to driving adoption has been taken by Electroneum. This currency hovers around the top 100 mark but I believe it has great potential and they seem to have a talented marketing team. Whilst not currently the largest market cap, I find them to be one of the most innovative projects when it come to driving adoption. They have developed a mobile cloud mining application which is really just a mechanism to airdrop users with free coins (maybe this is better described as an airdrip or a faucet?). You need to download the Android or iOS app and login to refresh your cloud mining at least once a week. The app doesn’t actually mine on your phone but rather simulates the process and provides a regular stream of ETN coins. The cool thing about the ETN wallet is that these free coins can be used to buy mobile phone top-ups from within the app. So far, they have focused on markets that have experienced severe currency volatility (i.e. ones that can benefit most from crypto adoption), such as Brazil, Turkey and South Africa, to start with, and more countries to follow. To use, download and install the app from the appropriate app store and by entering a referral code, you will mine ETN at a slightly enhanced rate (my code Is CC58D3).

Figure 4: Brave browser enables lighting fast search and allows you to earn BAT tokens
No self-respecting article on this topic could be considered complete, without at least a mention of the Brave browser and the Basic Attention Token. I love everything about this project, from the genius technical team behind this to their disruptive business model which democratises the advertising industry, allowing everyone to participate in the ecosystem and share in the value created. Again, much has been written about this project so I will just whole-heartedly endorse it. If you haven’t already downloaded the Brave browser, please see my referral link at the end of the article and start enjoying lighting fast, spam free browsing.
Other projects
The final category I include here for completeness is projects that provide free unlisted tokens. These are not currently listed on exchanges but do have utility within their own ecosystems and may in the future be listed on cryptocurrency exchanges.

Figure 5: Sweatcoin pays you to exercise
Sweatcoin is an app available on both Android and iOS platforms. It pays you in sweatcoins based on how far you walk each day. Earned sweatcoins can then be exchanged through the app for goods and services and most interestingly, they can be donated to crowdfunded charitable projects. I really like the vision and values of this project and the team have indicated in the future that the coin may become listed on an exchange. In the meantime, I am just accumulating coins to motivate me to walk every day.

Figure 6: SwiftDemand pays a universal basic income to users
SwiftDemand is another project with a social benefit goal. The basic premise is to provide all registered users with a universal basic income of 100 Swift tokens a day. In order to claim the tokens, you simply need to logon to the website once a week. The platform sends you a reminder when you need to claim. These tokens can be exchanged for goods and services through the platform.

Figure 7: Presearch rewards users with token for online search
Presearch is a search platform that rewards you with tokens, each time you search online. It acts as a frontend to your preferred search engine (Google is default) and so minimises potential barriers to adoption. Presearch have announced plans to launch a peer to peer exchange to allow users to sell their coins. Currently they can be bought through the platform or earned through search activity.

Figure 8: Berminal rewards users for reading crypto related news content
The final project I would like to highlight is Berminal. This is a curated news platform that brings together latest news and articles for leading crypto projects. Users can earn free BERM tokens for reading articles and voting on whether the story is bullish or bearish for crypto markets.
