On Which Chain to Game?

The Ethereum chain without the help of Matic is simply not suitable for frequent blockchain gaming transactions to take place as things currently stand at present. Ethereum can currently only process 15 transactions per second (This hopefully will be remedied with the continued advancement of Ethereum v2.0, now that the rollout has begun). As such only simple asset transfer games such as Crypto Kitties currently work here and current high Gas fees means such NFTs transfers are becoming more and more rare. The Sandbox and Decentraland are also fully based solely on Ethereum.

With the use of the Matic side chain alongside Ethereum however we can be getting a much more expansive 10,000+ transactions per second throughput to allow asset transfers to take place in volume. Prominent projects taking this approach now include Neon District, Blockchain Cuties and MegaCryptoPolis

An ecosystem built on top of Ethereum is Enjin. Which is aiming to build a metaverse of games with included interchangeable digital assets stored on the blockchain for individual ownership. The standout game currently on Enjin is Lost Relics which I can attest is showing real promise.

Most of you will be familiar with the blockchain gaming goliath that is Splinterlands that upended Ethereum's Gods Unchained in terms of popularity. This was the gaming standout that showed just how powerful of a platform the Hive blockchain could be for gaming whilst highlighting Ethereum's throughput downside.  Here we can transact with speed and at little cost per transaction.

I am currently taking part in the free to play games Rising Star and CryptoBrewMaster on Hive. There is no start up costs to begin playing these games and to begin accumulating NFTs and earn in game currencies that can later be exchanged for Hive via TheHiveEngine. In-fact all games hosted on the Hive chain involve accumulating an in-game currency that can be cashed out by exchanging for Hive or reinvesting into the game over time. Other new and upcoming game in this space are dCity, Unsung Hero and Ocean Planet. If you are interested in learning more about Hive gaming I suggest you follow Khazrakh on Publish0x who regularly publishes his findings and progress with gaming on Hive.

A current competitor to Hive also making good gains is Wax (Worldwide Assets Exchange). It's a favoured chain in which to easily incorporate a game inclusive of trading card NFTs thanks to the chain's developer tools. I've been adding to my portfolio of NFT's on the Wax chain for a significant amount of time now. Transacting with the chain is easy, fast and free and fees for NFT sales are minimal. We are provided with a free cloud wallet upon registering with WAX and here we have a clean simple interface included with links to all dapps and games currently using the platform. If you get involved with WAX you will surely be visiting the Atomic Market often in order to scour out card trades. You will need some WAX currency if you plan to make purchases here and your sales will be settled in WAX also.

Wax offer the opportunity to develop on their chain and for individuals to get involved and start their own projects if they so wish. I am acquiring NFTs from prominent projects on there such as Alien Worlds, KOGs and Dark Country. Alien Worlds hosts an interesting meta-verse characteristic in which cards from other projects (such as Banano's CryptoMonkeys) can be mined from within the idle clicker game. A new project release I am looking forward to now that WAX has obtained the Capcom license is that of the Street Fighter 5 card series shortly due for release.

Other prominent projects I am collecting on WAX may be familiar to you from your time spent here on Publish0x. CryptoMonkeys are created by the Banano crypto platform, who regularly post here and The Periodic Table of Elements project promoted here on Publish0x via Robertoit. Follow these channels for more info and enter contests to win free WAX NFTs. DrYunani also promotes many WAX projects and also kindly hosts many giveaways.

A new feature involving WAX that I am testing out is R-Planet. I am using the developing platform to stake some of my owned cards to passively earn some Aether whilst my NFT's are idle. I have cards from Alien Worlds, KOGs and Blockchain Heros currently staked and put to work with R-Planet  collectively totalling 34 cards in number.

R-Planet Staking

I am attempting to support all these promising chains with my time and knowledge and I have also invested in many promising crypto coins in the blockchain gaming space. I hold Ethereum and have smaller bags of Enjin coin, Sand (The in game currency of The Sandbox), Matic, Wax and Hive etc alongside many other lesser known coins alongside my growing collection of gaming NFTs.

I will be watching closely and it will be interesting to monitor the progress of each platform over time. Will only one platform emerge to win out over all the others and become the one only dominant chain for gaming? Or will niches continue in which a certain platform is favoured for idle clicker games etc and others for more action packed and involved games. I have my eyes firmly on this emerging space for both games and blockchain.

Thanks for reading.
